When to have a Literacy Learning Assessment?
During Years 1-3 if a child requires additional and targeted intervention but is too young for a formal dyslexia diagnostic assessment
What happens during a Literacy Learning Assessment?
These sessions take about two hours and include a range of informal assessment tasks which explore reading, writing and spelling skills as well as some aspects of cognitive processing (e.g. phonological awareness and memory)
What happens afterwards?
All Literacy Learning Assessments will be followed up by a detailed report within two weeks of the session taking place. The report will include:
- a summary of background information provided by home and school
- description of each activity followed by identification of individual strengths as well as areas for development
- extensive recommendations to inform future teaching and learning
Fee
A Literacy Learning Assessment costs £450. We usually ask that this is paid in full before the assessment. However, if you need to pay this in instalments instead, please let us know.
A proportion of the fee
that you pay helps us to provide subsidised assessments to lower-income
families. This prevents people from being excluded from getting the help they need. Thank
you very much for your help and support. Please note that when making an enquiry, there is the option for anyone to request bursary support.
Our Specialist Teachers
All Literacy Learning Assessments are carried out by specialist teachers who hold specific qualifications in teaching children with dyslexia. They understand the strengths and particular difficulties of individual learners, and are experienced in developing programmes of specialist teaching support. Each of our specialist teachers holds a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check.
Information we will need
If you do make an enquiry for this service, we will ask you to complete a Family Questionnaire and we will need you child's school to complete a School Questionnaire. We will give you clear instructions as to how to ask your school to do this.
